Not that I know of (it should only affect how the emulator renders the
Android screen to the host system's screen).
I used this with the Galaxy Tab add on, worked fine. Perhaps something
else is causing the instability for you.

Use "scale to real size" in the launch dialog, play with the
scaling factor (0.5 is a good start for an emulated tablet).
