I've been notified about this problem as well. It seems like using the PACKAGE_REPLACED intent should make it able to offer a workaround. Otherwise, if you offer an alarm clock function or any other important schedule, you'd got to tell your users they have to disable auto update and restart your app after updates, because otherwise they'll come too late to work...
