Are you saying you can't press the back button on some emulator configurations? I see back buttons on the default emulator skin for API 8 and 10. Maybe you are using a different skins? Regardless, you should just be able to press ESC key to send the back button as per: http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html
