Have you checked http://omappedia.org/wiki/Android_Debugging#DDD_.28Data_Display_Debugger.29 for what it has to say? It seems to be focused on using with the emulator rather than the phone, but at least it does use DDD instead of the Eclipse built-in debugger -- which is much more widely used.
