don't believe everything you hear about gc. In fact, don't believe anything you hear about gc. As I understand it, Google/Android likes to "keep stuff around just in case". Even if you explicitly exit your application you will still see it in the "task manager" etc. (It even goes as far as static variables surviving and still being set to the same value throughout a app close/re-open sequence)
