InputMethodService is just that... a service that runs waiting for you to need your keyboard and provides the hooks for the system to ask for it when needed.
If its too complex for you to get while you are sitting in front of all the documentation, what makes you think its not too complex to compress down to a single post in a forum? It's actually not as bad as it looks, there are just a lot of parts to it.
