Git has a rather steep learning curve but is the best tool available today. Svn is a lot simpler to learn and use but is not as versatile as Git.
If you are a single developer on your project and don't want to invest the time then SVN is perfect for you. You'll be good to go in a few minutes. If you are several developers working intensively on the project then GIT is a must have. Good luck.
