Use adb logcat, DDMS, or the DDMS perspective in Eclipse to examine
LogCat and look at the stack trace associated with your error.

Not by binding.

That being said:

to third-party applications, you do not need a remote service of any
form, let alone one involving binding

-- Do not start services that "keep running" unless you have a clear
and precise plan for when and how you will stop that service from
running
