If I was in your place, I would try to revise the workflow of the application so that it can easily comply with the framework. I know it's quite vague sentence, but from what I understand you are trying to implement your own activity stack, possibly with multiple instances, and maybe that's unnecessary complexity. If the implementation has become too complex, go back and revise your design or even the requirements.
