It does (although I haven't had a reason to use it for a long time).
The "not used" probably means it's not passed back to the application,
but who knows...

Does that work? I have never tried it, in part because of the
"(currently not used)" for it in the docs. It would seem to be the
simplest solution for this scenario -- use the notification's own ID
as the request code, and each notification's PendingIntent becomes
distinct.
