OK, I think the trouble is because I create a bitmap with config
ARGB_8888 for image manipulation in case anyone out there is
interested. After I switch to RGB_565, then it draws the transparent
curve successfully. Not only that, when you ship the ARGB_8888
bitmap to the image cropper, it seemed to confuse the device and went
into a lockup.
