I figured it out. Instead of UserDictionary.CONTENT_URI, you need to use UserDictionary.Words.CONTENT_URI. Which makes me wonder why the UserDictionary class exists at all, since the only genuine piece of information it defines (the URI) isn't actually directly usable.
