Intent intent = new Intent(this, FooActivity.class);
intent.putExra("SomeVariableName", strVariable);
startActivity(intent);
Then in your FooActivity.class (in onCreate(...) for example):
...
Intent intent = getIntent();
String variable = intent.getStringExtra("SomeVariableName");
