I think I found the problem. I wasn't recycling my rows, which meant a new EditText would have to be created from row.findViewById each time I update the EditText. Instead I really need to recycle rows for this to work. I am going to try that now. Chapter 8 of Commonsware's "The Busy Coder's Guide to Android Development" by Mark Murphy shows how to recycle. I am going to try that now.
