I was trying to follow the official recommended icon sizes for action bar
menu icons:
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design_action_bar.html

However, following these results in a comparatively tiny icon. When looking
at the resources included for Honeycomb or ICS in the SDK, the included menu
icons are 48x48 for HDPI, not the recommended 36x36. Also, they do not have
wide margins like the examples in the above link do.

When I redid my icon as 48x48 with a tiny margin in HDPI, it looked exactly
right.

Also, why do all the included icons in the SDK have a dark gray border
around them? This is not described in the instructions either. Neither do
the official apps, such as Gmail, use them.
