You beat me to it :) I haven't actually checked, but word is that newer version
of Market are using SSL, so that is probably OK for most phones. Still, it is
generally a bad idea to use an unprotected (open) public WiFi network. Gmail,
etc. are using SSL, but most app are not. And there is indeed a handy
Firesheep-like
for Android, so it's quite possible to sniff stuff (seems people are
mostly after
Facebook) with an Android phone.
