To get back to the issue ;-) I know plenty of people whos main gaming
platform is their smartphone (be Android and/or iOS) - and I've NEVER
heard of ANYONE who connected an external/alternative controller to
their device.

Personally I'd would ruin my experience if I couldn't just pull the
phone from my pocket and start playing - and if I'd have to remember
to bring along the extra controller it would be a deal breaker. There
are many many games genres/types that require another controller
scheme than the one currently supplied by smartphones - but for those
I've placed a pre-order for feb. 22nd ;o)

As TreKing said in the very first response: Develop for a different
platform or develop a different game. ;o)
