No.

"External" does not mean "detachable". "External" means "can be
mounted as a drive or volume on a host machine".

It varies by device and what the user all has in it. Devices complying
with the Compatibility Definition Document must have at least 2GB of
external storage available when the device ships. Many have more than
this.
