Not anymore. AT&T recently released their "Non-Market Apps Enabler" app (I think it was about 2--3 months ago, but don't quote me on that). Download, install, run, and you don't need to use adb to install non-market apps anymore. I was really glad (surprised, but glad) that AT&T finally pulled their heads out of their butts...at least on this issue.
