All you should have to do is enable debugging under Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging, then plug your phone into your computer with the supplied USB cable, and Eclipse and the SDK will pretty much do the rest if your computer is properly configured. There's a page some where on the development site explaining exactly what needs to be done on Windows, MacOS/X, and Linux, but I couldn't find it with a quick search. Nonetheless, it is possible and relatively simple.
