I was referring to the Email app, not Gmail.
It does the same multipanel animation thing as Gmail, but, unlike Gmail,
its sources are available in the repo.

Once you've done "repo init", you can do "repo sync packages/apps/Email".
The file you probably want to start with is ThreePaneLayout.java
