While I find the developers guide a great reference, I would hardly advise a beginner to start with it alone. To the OP: use the developers guide as a reference, and use it often. Always check there before asking your question here, as you will often find your answer with a few seconds worth of searching, especially after you get more adapted to the best search terms to use...but I highly recommend that you start with a good beginner-level book. Mark Murphy has some great books, and I seem to recall that at least one of his is beginner-level. I don't have the link off-hand, but hopefully he'll chime in here with it and a pointer to which book(s) you should start with. There are othes, too...lots of them. Some are for beginners, some aren't. If you don't know Java, you should get a good book on learning Java, as well. Buy one that will serve as both a beginner's guide and as a reference, or buy two books, one for both. Also look online for tutorials for both Android and Java development. And I also suggest that you subscribe to [email protected] along with this list. Hope this helps.
