Hello Lew,

Sai is my brother and a young engineer. He just asked my opinion on whether
his original post and the follow up sounded rude. I don't think so.

His worry about his post/email/question/coda/cantata was that it might have
gotten to the bottom of a list with several question, perhaps more
pressing. Cultural differences aside, Jim's advice did not further his
cause even a bit, IMO. I have run a list for prospective graduate students,
who write with varying abilities of grammar, articulation and context, and
not once do I remember talking about stuff being free, and people whining
and so on.

First, I stop to wonder if someone is actually being rude. Second, I try to
respond in a manner useful to them. If I cannot do either, I don't respond.
