I'm with Nathan.

Multiple threads not only don't make things go faster, unless there are 
actually multiple processors (and, btw, there may well be...) it can easily 
make them go slower.  Multiple threads just allow things to happen out of 
order.  They are useful only if there are resources available to apply to 
some task that are not being used, because that task is ordered behind some 
other task.
