Conceivably, but the Maps SDK add-on has not been changed for years. > Is there a roadmap? Yes. And, if you get a job with Google and join the Android or Maps teams, you might even be able to find out what is on the roadmap. Otherwise, you will find out when the rest of us find out, which is when that feature is released (or the heat death of the universe, whichever comes first). Very little is published publicly in the way of "roadmaps".
