Does keeping an open TCP/IP connection keep the radio in a high-power state for the duration of the connection? GCM is implemented as a persistent TCP/IP connection and I would assume Google wouldn't implement it like that if it did.
Any pointers would be great. I have to keep a connection open and ping every 60 seconds (I may be able to expand this range). I am mostly worried about battery usage when the app is both in the background and foreground.
