It is being dismissed because during rotation your Activity is being destroyed and recreated and hence the Context for your dialog gets destroyed.
If you would like your dialog to be recreated after rotation use Activity#showDialog(dialogId) instead, as this will automatically take care of reconstruction of the dialog.
