My guess is that it's a question of semantics... the function is described 
as:
Returns a constant indicating the device phone type. This indicates the 
type of radio used to transmit voice calls.  

Since you can't actually make voice calls (as far as i know) the proper 
result is indeed None.

If you want to see that it actually support 3G data you need to use 
"getNetworkType"
