To my knowledge that bug is cleared up: I had used it in old versions
of Android (2.2 perhaps?)  I doubt it persists on vanilla Android in
the current build, since I'd read it had been fixed.  Because of that,
these apps shouldn't work (unless, of course, they've found another
hole ;-).

Mark's reply on SO also implies he agrees you shouldn't be able to do
this on ICS and above:

I'd assume the app doesn't work on recent devices.  If it does, it's
probably only bad devices with crappy stock firmware that haven't
fixed this bug.  Have you installed the app on a recent device?
