Hey Shane, Thanks for the help. I took a look at the Android Market "tech questions forum" and it appears this is effecting many people. So, without a clear solution in place I went ahead and refactored as you suggested. It was tougher than just hitting the "refactor" button in Intelij as I had over 40 references to the package through my xml (for example custom views, etc.).
But all is well now, and thanks for the idea as once I finally dug in deep I was able to make it work.
