During the initial phases of a project (Project Brief, Business Proposal, and System Proposal), the Solution Architect provides guidance to project direction and oversees the functional design. As the project transitions into the System Design phase, Solution Architecture has significant involvement overseeing the development of the technical design of the solution. As the project moves into coding, testing, and delivery, the Solution Architect focuses on code quality and ensuring that the product being developed is consistent with the design and with the design patterns of the organization. The following demonstrates the breadth of activities within the Solution Architect’s responsibility. · Lead/steer the delivery provider and team members in the gathering of requirements and the development of the functional design · Lead/steer the delivery provider and team members in the development of the technical design · Lead/steer the delivery provider and team members in coding and testing · Review code and provide feedback to ensure alignment with coding standards, relevant practices and patterns and the project design · Validates delivery of IT Components, ensuring that they meet the standards guidelines such as Maintainability Index and Cyclomatic Complexity index. Validates the technical approach taken by the development team / provider, and ensures that it is consistent with standards, guidelines, and decisions made within the System Design for a given project. · Create and document transition IT architecture within early project phases. · Define and assess alternative solutions including qualitative assessment, cost, and benefit analysis. · Create (or steer resources in the creation of) the project Conceptual View diagrams. · Provide input to project team and business owners on the technical feasibility of projects. · Define technical alternatives to implement project goals. · Review business requirements, provides guidance on how those requirements should be technically implemented. · Identify non-functional requirements necessary to achieve project goals. · Provide guidance to project teams to ensure that their solution fits with strategic goals for one or more functional domains.
