Title: System Engineer – Senior Level Location: Gaithersburg, MD Open for USC/ GC/ EAD and H1 B folks – who can clear Public Trust Non USC – Min 3 years in USA and not travelled outside USA over 180 days ( 6 months) in last 3 years overall EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Emerging authority typically with a Bachelor’s Degree in scientific or engineering discipline and 5 years’ of relevant experience. Under general supervision, formulates and defines system scope and objectives based on user needs and specifications, research, and fact-finding. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems, considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Defines and develops system requirements, documenting the requirements in detailed specifications from which programs will be developed and/or procured, and from which hardware will be developed and/or procured. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary. Analyzes and resolves difficult and complicated program support deficiencies. Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design. Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of systems engineering activities. Very familiar with FAASTD-026A NAS Software Development Standard, or equivalent. POSITION DESCRIPTION: System Engineering – define software requirements specification, develop interface control documents, and manage requirements to include all aspects of performance, quality, life cycle costs, maintainability, reliability, schedule, data processing reserves, and future growth requirements. Under the direction of Client management, the candidate shall: • Perform systems engineering as needed for the TFDM system and • Provide any support needed for software development. Candidates shall be responsible for any/all of the following: • Articulating user needs and requirements from high level user stories; • Developing the design for the user interface framework; • Developing client and server side components; analyzing and designing databases within an application; and • Working in an agile environment. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Successful candidates shall possess: • Proven experience working in complex projects gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements • Working knowledge with process modeling • Demonstrated understanding of full software development life cycle • Hands on experience with requirements management tool • Proven experience with supporting highly critical customer missions • Collaborate with developers and testers in ensuring requirements are implemented correctly and meet customer’s expectation • Ability to identify solution and evaluate solution to complex system problem • Actively participate in the discovery/validation/verification process throughout the development life cycle • Actively engage in process improvement initiatives • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss their requirements and objectives • Experience with model-based system engineering • Experience using the Rhapsody tool • An understanding of engineering issues and the ability to develop cost effective solutions • Experience in full-life cycle software applications development using an agile and waterfall methodology, to include engineering, development, test and integration • Experience and/or knowledge of aviation / air traffic control • Familiarization with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA Telecommuting is not available.
