*SSIS Skills*
• Advanced skillset with SSIS 2008+ experience
• Ability to explain an overview of an ETL end (source) to end (target).
Experience in constructing the same scenario.
• Ability to explain objects contained within the ETL and why they are
used. Experience in working with the SSIS objects.
• Ability to explain alternatives to accomplish the same goal (we all know
there are always a multitude of ways to accomplish any task). Experience in
working         with a multitude of objects and functionality in SSIS.
• Ability to explain situations in which one way would be better to code
over another.

*SSMS Skills*
• Knowledge of a variety of objects within a DBMS
            Ability to explain purpose and alternatives
            Experience in coding each from scratch
            Experience in understanding and altering existing code
• Knowledge and experience in performance tuning various types of objects
within a DBMS
           o Ability to explain their method for performance tuning
           o The person needs to be able to troubleshoot a poorly
performing query holistically – meaning that they don’t just look at how
the query is structured                  but also look at the underlying
structures such as indexes, data sets, etc.
            o Poorly performing stored procedures need to have queries
reviewed, as well as the objects contained within the stored procedure
(Cursors? Function calls? Etc)
• Developer needs to be able to track through complex code to understand
what it is doing and why
• Developer needs to be able to create stored procedures to solve complex
problems. This could require:
            o Referencing multiple crosswalk tables to pull in all
necessary values
            o Trace through any other code that is also touching/affecting
the data set
            o Look at the solution from multiple views to find the one that
best fits the environment and task at hand

*Troubleshooting Skills*
• These skills need to be advanced
• *Ability to dissect a failed process to:*
            o Determine cause
            o Deduce correction
            o Confidence to take action on the correction
            o Move with a sense of urgency
• *Ability to dissect data issues to:*
           o Determine one or more causes of the issue
           o Determine resolution of coding defects
           o Ability to assess impact to other processing

*Communication Skills*
• Ability to be easily understood both verbally and written
• Initiative
o To rephrase a question if they don’t understand or are unsure
o To follow up to make sure that the information they provide is
correct/sufficient
o To ask questions to gain knowledge about the full picture
• Provide detailed answers without being overly verbose
• Provide examples to further demonstrate knowledge
