The Linux System Administrator will install, configure, document, monitor, manage, update, and support the PC hardware, peripherals, operating system, email, browser, and office suite used in the more than 4,700 Client paint stores and Automotive Division retail and wholesale locations in the USA and Canada. The systems supply the computing platform for internally developed business applications used to record Point of Sale, general accounting, and operational transactions for the paint stores and Automotive coatings branches. The systems are geographically dispersed and are developed and deployed using a replicated site model. Administration and support of the systems are remotely conducted. The software platform consists of: - Oracle Enterprise Linux - Progress OpenEdge RDBMS - LibreOffice office suite - Firefox web browser - Thunderbird email client *Essential Functions * *Project Planning * Work with business stakeholders to identify the business requirements of the assigned projects Work with IT management and business stakeholders to identify the technical requirements of the assigned projects Perform feasibility and cost/benefit analyses for proposed projects Produce detailed project plans Plan and organize tasks, report on project progress, coordinate with additional technical teams Plan, organize, and conduct field tests of new and/or updated hardware and software components Prepare installation, operational, and support instructions for system implementation *System Administration * Install and configure operating system packages Configure and activate system services as required Evaluate hardware and system software components Integrate new hardware components into the platform Modify system and service configuration as required to meet new security requirements Identify and evaluate software package upgrades Test and approve package updates for distribution and production use Develop automated processes for package distribution, installation, and tracking Monitor and support package installation Improve processes for hardware and software evaluation Support application development team projects Administer systems used by the software development teams Perform regression testing Create manual and automated test scripts Perform change management *Operational Support * Develop improvements to administration, maintenance, and support processes Provide third level support for operating system and hardware problems reported by field employees Support local area network and wide area network maintenance and implementation activities.
