try this method:
PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0,
new Intent(this, SMS.class), 0);
SmsManager sms = SmsManager.getDefault();
sms.sendTextMessage(phoneNumber, null, message, pi,
null);
it works well.
