I think that Android apps can't access the SD card in r/w mode when it is used in USB mass storage mode. Otherwise it works great. I read somewhere that this is a limitation of the FAT32 filesystem, which is a single user fs?! Unfortunately the setting for use in mass storage mode has disappeared and IMHO can only be accessed if you install something like Anycut. I suspect that when using the Mount/Don't Mount dialog from the status bar (after you hooked your phone to your computer) it has the same effect: mount -> exclusive r/w access for the host computer in usb mass storage mode.
I would like to hear what others have seen here. And no, it doesn't seem related to my problem, but thanks anyway. I've not experienced that some kind of files make the fs choke.
