I know nothing about 1.1, I've started on 1.5 but I've had that problem every time I make a "clean" on my project (generated on 1.5 from eclipse) to solve it I just delete (from eclipse itself) the R.java file (on gen/blabla/blabla...) and then "build" the project.
After doing that everything works fine, give it a try and tell us ;) Luis.
