Hallelujah! Removing registry keys did it for me. Big fat warning: do not stop at first key you going to find. I had to repeat all steps and ended up removing 4 different registry folders. In one instance I had to update permissions. Anyway - it's working: thank you, thank you, thank you! Easiest way to get to the driver, btw is to right click on the removable drive folder and select Properties->Hardware->Driver
