Probably. I'm guessing at the vague description you are providing. There could certainly be other ways to achieve this.
Have a look at "adb shell dumpsys activity" to see what your app is actually doing. Also look at the log to see what is printed as your app runs. And "adb logcat -b events" has some more condensed but descriptive logs of what the activity manager does.
