Probably not. I do not have an HTC Hero and so am not familiar with this feature. However, there is nothing in the RemoteViews API that supports gestures AFAICT. Also, just because it is on the home screen does not mean it is an app widget, just as the Google search "widget" on regular Android devices is not an app widget.
