I totally want to avoid nicking the graphics, to be honest knocking something up in the gimp isn't going to tax me, it's just something which would be better if it wasn't needed.
I think that the whole solution is probably going to need building in a reusable way so that everyone can get to do it how they should be able to already.. I've had the very same issue with needing to know when what the user looks at changes (so you can lazy load icons). Once I've got something working, I'll hopefully get around to making it all proper with classes, listeners etc and bung something up on google code (ironically).. J.
