Okay, the Google Groups website is doing more harm than good when trying to fix my links. :)
The Bitmap method that I was suggesting that you check out is: createBitmap(Bitmap source, int x, int y, int width, int height) Returns an immutable bitmap from the specified subset of the source bitmap. So, first you create a Bitmap object for the whole image, then you can get sub-rectangles from it using the above method. I've never actually done this myself, but from looking at the API I suspect this would work.
