You should be able to compile against 1.6 right? That seemed to give us all tools necessary to support Long displays. My plan is to compile against 1.6, but only use 1.5 APIs. Put the droid layouts in res/layout-long, and test on 1.6 and 2.0 devices, and a 1.5 emulator.
It seems the browser plainly states the current Android version of the User Agent, so I expected to see somone give a breakdown of the traffic they are seeing, based on firmware. Has anyone done this? It seems to me like you'd want to support Android 1.5 and later. I've noticed they still sell G1's that ship with the 1.1 firmware, but we got the OTA update within 24 hours of activating the handset, so all supporting 1.1 seems to get you is a one day head start. A lot of the top applications didn't show up on the market on said Android 1.1 G1 so it seems like major developers are supporting 1.5 on.
