Hello all, I have also always been looking for a kanji (Japanese character) scanner for Android. Most cellphones can do this here, it is a feature users expect from their cellphones. And there are algorithms around, so it should not be impossible.
Similarly, porting the open-source, open-data Gjiten English<- >Japanese dictionary would be much nicer than using any online service, because there is no Internet in the subway, and even in covered places, Internet costs money. I already developed a few open-source applications for Android, and I would be glad to develop these 2 ones as well if I had time, which is unfortunately not the case. So if anyone is looking for a small pet project, please take any of them! Thanks a lot!
