Anyway, regarding the reply, I realize that the process and service can be killed and restarted. However, I am nearly certain that this is *not* what is happening in this case. Furthermore, having run a few more tests, it appears that this does *not* happen when the phone is charging (either via a real AC charger, or being plugged into a USB cable), only when the phone is not plugged in at all, leading me to again guess that this has to do with the phone going into some deep sleep mode. - Rich
