Correct, it doesn't do anything with it. (Though technically by the time the .apk is on the device, the folder is irrelevant; what the device is doing is looking at the resource table, which contains a data structure representing the different pieces that aapt parsed out of the directory names, and only looking at the particular fields of that structure it knows about.)
