you need to use: Button3 = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.button3); Button4 = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.button4); Button5 = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.button5); Button6 = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.button6); because button 3-6 are in the layout of the dialog and not the activity, just calling findViewById will search for views in the activity's layout.
