I'm currently testing appwidgets on a high-density device. If I create an appwidget with code unchanged from the low-density version, widget icons in the RemoteView set using setImageViewResource are scaled up nicely and appear normal.
However, using setImageViewUri, the icons turn out tiny on the homescreen. In both cases, the icons are 48x48, and use exactly the same layout.
