Hmmm...try android:state_selected="true" instead of
android:state_focused="true".

Also, I'm not certain this tip will work on the Nexus One's launcher,
which somehow manages to do a tailored orange line around the actual
icon itself, not just the orange square. You may still wind up having to
replace the icon with something that isn't the same shade of orange. :-(
