Yes.. many people are making money, although not nearly as much as iPhone developers right now. Some make ok money, some just a little bit. AdMob, Greystripe and others allow in-app ads that will produce money. We've recently discussed and finally were filled in that you can also have your own virtual goods payment in your own app. So if you're willing to do the leg work, you can provide in-app goods, that players can buy (if they are willing to) as well and make money that way.
